Bootcamp Mac Os X 10.4 Download

How to Install Windows 10 on Your Mac with Boot Camp

If you want to run Windows 10 on your Mac, you can use Boot Camp Assistant, a utility that comes with your Mac. Boot Camp Assistant helps you create a partition on your hard drive, and then guides you through the installation process of Windows 10. However, depending on the model of your Mac, you might need an external USB drive to install Windows 10. In this article, we will show you how to check if your Mac requires an external USB drive, and how to download and install the latest Windows support software from Apple.

Check if your Mac requires an external USB drive

Some older Mac models require an external USB drive to install Windows 10, while newer Mac models can use the internal drive to temporarily store the items needed for the installation. To find out whether you need an external USB drive, see the Learn more section in the Apple Support article [Install Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp Assistant].

Format a USB flash drive

If your Mac requires an external USB drive, you need a 16GB or larger USB flash drive formatted as MS-DOS (FAT). To format your USB flash drive, follow these steps:

  • Start your Mac from macOS.

  • Plug the USB flash drive into your Mac.

  • Open Disk Utility, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.

  • Choose View > Show All Devices from the menu bar.

  • From the sidebar in Disk Utility, select your USB flash drive. (Select the drive name, not the volume name beneath it.)

  • Click the Erase button or tab.

  • Choose MS-DOS (FAT) as the format and Master Boot Record as the scheme.

  • Click Erase to format the drive.

  • When done, quit Disk Utility.

Download the Windows support software

After preparing your USB flash drive, you need to download the latest Windows support software from Apple. This software includes drivers that let Windows work with your Mac hardware, such as the keyboard, mouse, trackpad, speakers, camera, and more. To download the Windows support software, follow these steps:

  • Make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet.

  • Open Boot Camp Assistant, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.

  • From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Action > Download Windows Support Software, then choose your USB flash drive as the save destination.

  • When the download completes, quit Boot Camp Assistant.

Install Windows 10 on your Mac

After downloading the Windows support software to your flash drive, you are ready to install Windows 10 on your Mac. The installation process depends on whether your Mac requires an external USB drive or not. To install Windows 10 on your Mac, do one of the following:

  • If your Mac doesnt require an external USB drive: Follow the instructions in [Install Windows on your newer Mac using Boot Camp].

  • If your Mac requires an external USB drive: Follow the instructions in [Install Windows on your older Mac using Boot Camp].

After installing Windows 10, you can switch between macOS and Windows by holding down the Option key during startup. You can also set the default operating system from macOS by choosing Apple menu > System Preferences > Startup Disk. For more information about using Boot Camp Assistant and Windows 10 on your Mac, see [Boot Camp Support].
